چکیده

HEMORRHAGIC PANCREATITIS is a more lethal disease than edematous pancreatitis [2, 5, 81. For prognostic and therapeutic purposes it would be useful to be able to distinguish between the two forms of pancreatitis, but present methods are inadequate. Levels of serum amylase, an index of the degree of ductal obstruction of the pancreas, depend on a functioning acinar cell [l]. Amylase and lipase levels do not reflect the presence of parenchymal necrosis unless diffuse destruction alters the capacity of the pancreas to produce amylase and lipase through a marked reduction in the number of viable acinar cells. Desoxyribonuclease I has been used as a measure of acinar cell destruction, but the method is expensive and time-consuming. Northam [7] has developed a test for detecting hemorrhagic necrosis of the pancreas based on the appearance of hematin in the serum, which is attributed to the action of

Terpenoid Compounds and Anti- Hemozoin and Anti- Ciliates Protozians Effects of Artemisia annua L. and Chenopodium botrys L.

Background: β-Hematin (Hemozoin) was synthised inside human erythrocyte by malaria parasite. The parasite avoids the toxic effects by polymerizing heme molecules into insoluble crystalline β-Hematin. C. botrys and A. annua used for the treatment of diseases like malaria, hepatitis, cancers, and inflammations. Objective: Determine of antimalarial and anti-protozoa effects of A. anuuae and C. bo...

Evaluation of anti-malarial activity of Artemisia turcomanica and A. kopetdaghensis by cell-free β-hematin formation assay

Background and objectives:The plants of genus Artemisia (Asteraceae) have been conventionally used for prevention and medication of a number of ailments. In the present research, ten extracts with different polarities from aerial parts of two Artemisia species, A. kopetdaghensis and A. turcomanica were evaluated for their potential anti-malar...

On the mechanism of hemozoin production in malaria parasites: activated erythrocyte membranes promote beta-hematin synthesis.

The ferriprotoporphyrin IX (FP) molecules released by intraerythrocytic malaria parasites during hemoglobin digestion are converted to beta-hematin and are stored in the parasites' food vacuoles. It has been demonstrated in cell-free medium that the incorporation of FP into beta-hematin under physiological conditions requires a catalyst from parasite lysates or pre-formed beta-hematin. In the p...

The Relation of Hematin to Pathological Pigment Formation

1. It has been shown that powdered hematin is exceedingly resistant to the metabolic action of tissue cells, and wherever injected it will remain for weeks with but slight and slowly progressing alteration. 2. The changes produced in hematin by tissue cells are identical with those changes resulting from the oxidation of hematin by hydrogen peroxid, forming a series of bodies of decreasing colo...

Phospholipid Membrane-Mediated Hemozoin Formation: The Effects of Physical Properties and Evidence of Membrane Surrounding Hemozoin

Phospholipid membranes are thought to be one of the main inducers of hemozoin formation in Plasmodia and other blood-feeding parasites. The "membrane surrounding hemozoin" has been observed in infected cells but has not been observed in in vitro experiments. This study focused on observing the association of phospholipid membranes and synthetic β-hematin, which is chemically identical to hemozo...
